Romania won two first prizes in a Microsoft contest


A team of three students from the Faculty of Science, University "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" (UAIC) Iasi won grand prize last night at the seventh edition of the international IT "Imagine Cup" organized by Microsoft. Another student from Iasi, won the first prize in his category, after obtaining the highest score in all history of the competition.

In competition they entered 440 students from 70 countries, and the final was held in Cairo, Egypt, from July 3. Last night,the students from Iasi were the stars of the awards ceremony.


The Romanian "Sytech", which include masteranzii Adrian Buzgar, Catalin Juravle and Andreas Resi, Intenational jury impressed by an intelligent program that encourages citizens working with authorities in solving the most burning problems of the metropolis cities.


evzAlso, Cosmin Ilie, a student at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of UAIC Iasi, won in this edition of "Imagine Cup" cup "IT CHALLANGE", obtaining the highest score in history competition. "It is the fifth consecutive year in which our university students are in the notice of the international Imagine Cup IT, but it is the first time that representatives UAIC occupy the first two places different sections," said Madalina Cocea, spokesman UAIC Iasi.

The program will be implemented in Iasi

 Iasi is the first city in which to implement the "UpCity", thought the winners "Imagine Cup". The program is designed to contribute to solving the problems of a city, and even of humanity: the global epidemic with stretching, traffic problems, the accumulation of scrap or waste pollution.

In addition, "UpCity" inhabitants of a city can report problems faced in everyday life and can cooperate with authorities and NGOs to identify, discuss and implement solutions for each.  Easily located geographically and easy to follow in time, problems and solutions may serve as a "success story" for other communities who face the same difficulties.

The program can be used to monitor the global epidemic, a convincing demonstration being made by team Sytech "where swine influenza - showing how health organizations, governments and ordinary citizens can see spreading epidemic and may contribute to the identification of a treatment.

For a transparent administration

Iasi City has agreed in advance with the project "UpCity" platform will be integrated on site muncipalitatii.  "It is an initiative which falls under the category of best practice which means a European public administration, transparency, citizen-oriented," said Daniel Matasaru, adviser to the Mayor Gheorghe Nichita.

In the project team Sytech "went from the idea that software, despite the fact he can provide solutions in itself, can facilitate communication and collaboration between citizens and authorities on one hand, and between cities around the whole globe on the other hand, to reach the best solutions for their problems.  "We believe that global problems can be solved starting from the smaller communities," claimed team members "Sytech" in front of international judges.
